You can learn to create real mobile apps and games this summer! These apps will use phone features such as the camera, accelerometer, GPS, touch gestures and more. We will also cover many key coding concepts including variables, functions, lists, conditionals, properties and events.
This camp is offered at our Chicago location (2867 N Clybourn Ave).
Camps are 3 hours long, and we give brains and bodies a chance to recharge with one 30 minute outdoor break. This may include walks around the neighborhood, social "hang-out" time at a green space, or casual games such as frisbee or basketball at our nearby park.
Apps will run on Android devices, with future cross-platform iOS potential. It is possible to put these apps in the Google Play Store, but that will not be directly covered in the camp.
Note: Available in Chicago only
We are pleased to offer the option to add a half day of sports and games with our partner, We Got Game, to this camp.
Sports will primarily take place at Burley Elementary and may include swim time at Hamlin Park (dry activities will be accommodated for kids who don't swim).
The add-on includes lunch hour supervision at Hamlin Park, and an escorted walk between the two camps.
Please note that you will drop off in the morning at one camp and pick up in the afternoon at the other.
If you register in error, we have a 24 hour, no-fee cancellation policy. Just call us or email us within 24 hours and we will take care of it.
After that, you can receive a refund, less a $50 admin fee, up until 14 days before the camp starts.
There are no refunds within 14 days of camp start.
We offer a sibling discount for 2 children from the same family registered in the same program. The sibling discount is 10% and the code is SIBLING.
There is an Early Bird Discount of 10% on all registrations up to March 31. The discount will be applied automatically.
We do not offer price adjustments for missed days. Please select a week that works for your schedule.
A free basic Android smartphone is provided for use during the camp. This is set up for Wifi only (no voice or data service) and kids can keep the device at the end of camp if they desire, but it is provided with no warranties or guarantees.
A Google account is required to access the coding site used in this camp. CPS Google accounts do not work on this site. If students do not have a Google account, we will set one up for them on the first day of camp.
The coding site is free to continue using after camp is over.
Camps are capped at 8 students, and will have a 4:1 ratio or better at this age group.
Our instructors are adults who are studying or have completed post-secondary education. We hire talented high school students as teaching assistants and to provide near-peer interactions.
All of our instructors have relevant coding or technology expertise.
