How the Time is Structured

Camps are 3 hours long, and we break up the time into one hour blocks to work with kids' natural learning rhythms. In the middle hour, we take them outside and have unstructured playground time to build friendships and refresh young brains and bodies. The group walks a short distance to Hamlin Park in Chicago or Bent Park in Evanston.

Daily Schedule

What Kids Will Learn and Do

  • Plan and design a world around a theme, and brainstorm what it should contain
  • Design and build structures and environments that serve a purpose related to what you want the player to see or do
  • Work with a team to plan, communicate, divide up jobs and help each other learn and build
  • Learn how to add redstone and command block features to add automation, game mechanics, challenges and hidden bonuses

The level of this class is very flexible. Older and more advanced students will be able to work on advanced challenges incorporating command blocks and complex redstone builds.

This class takes place entirely within the Minecraft game environment on our own private servers. We set up custom worlds to facilitate teamwork and learning and we have rules of appropriate in-game behavior that kids are expected to follow.

Sports Add-On (Full Day Camp 9am-4pm)

Note: Available in Chicago only

For dates between June 24 and Aug 16, we are pleased to offer the option to add a half day of sports and games with our partner, We Got Game.

Sports will primarily take place at Burley Elementary and may include swim time at Hamlin Park (dry activities will be accommodated for kids who don't swim).

The add-on includes lunch hour supervision at Hamlin Park, and an escorted walk between the two camps.

Please note that you will drop off in the morning at one camp and pick up in the afternoon at the other.
