We have expanded our coding camp to create the new Early Coding, Robotics & Engineering Summer Camp. This camp for young kids is focused on hands-on exploration to see how coding works and how it is used to command robots and machines. Kids will work with robots, iPads, and crafting materials to learn about how humans can use technology for work and play.

This camp is offered at both our Chicago location (2867 N Clybourn Ave) and our North Shore location (3434 Central St, Evanston, inside Unity Church on the North Shore), serving Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette and neighboring areas.

How the Time is Structured

Camps are 3 hours long, and we break up the time into one hour blocks to work with kids' natural learning rhythms. In the middle hour, we take them outside and have unstructured playground time to build friendships and refresh young brains and bodies. The group walks a short distance to Hamlin Park in Chicago or Bent Park in Evanston.

What Kids Will Learn and Do

This is a fun, exploratory camp that will introduce a range of computing, robotics and engineering ideas in a hands-on, exploratory environment.

  • Learn about what engineering is and how engineers help improve our lives, then build simple machines and structures
  • Learn about what robots are and what they are made of such as power, sensors, motors and more - look at and analyze the parts of different types of robots
  • Learn what code is and how to build stories and animations using ScratchJr
  • Apply coding ideas to robots and see how different robots have their own languages
  • Combine a robot with a simple machine to see how much more powerful it can be

Sports Add-On (Full Day Camp 9am-4pm)

Note: Available in Chicago only

For dates between June 24 and Aug 16, we are pleased to offer the option to add a half day of sports and games with our partner, We Got Game.

Sports will primarily take place at Burley Elementary and may include swim time at Hamlin Park (dry activities will be accommodated for kids who don't swim).

The add-on includes lunch hour supervision at Hamlin Park, and an escorted walk between the two camps.

Please note that you will drop off in the morning at one camp and pick up in the afternoon at the other.

Refunds & Price Adjustments

If you register in error, we have a 24 hour, no-fee cancellation policy. Just call us or email us within 24 hours and we will take care of it.

After that, you can receive a refund, less a $50 admin fee, up until 14 days before the camp starts.

There are no refunds within 14 days of camp start.

We offer a sibling discount for 2 children from the same family registered in the same program. The sibling discount is 10% and the code is SIBLING.

There is an Early Bird Discount of 10% on all registrations up to March 31. The discount will be applied automatically.

We do not offer price adjustments for missed days. Please select a week that works for your schedule.

Hardware, Accounts & Materials

Use of tablets, computers, robots and engineering supplies are all included. Kids may bring home their craft constructions, but robots are not to be taken home.

ScratchJr is a free iPad/Android app, and projects are saved on your tablet. You may bring your own tablet if you choose.

If kids wish to bring a robot from home to show to the class, there will be a day for that.

Class Size & Instructors

Camps are capped at 8 students, and will have a 4:1 ratio or better at this age group.

Our instructors are adults who are studying or have completed post-secondary education. We hire talented high school students as teaching assistants and to provide near-peer interactions.

All of our instructors have relevant coding or technology expertise.
