EARLY CODING CAMPS
Early Coding camps are designed for kids ages 6-7 to explore coding and logic using Scratch Jr on the iPad. This camp is friendly to all literacy levels, and is structured so that kids can get up and move around, squirm a bit, and explore coding within a less formal classroom set up.
Camps are 3 hours long, and we break up the time in a variety of ways to keep kids engaged. We use unplugged examples to explore concepts, group coding, and individual iPad coding time. We also give them fresh air and a brain break in Hamlin Park, just one block north, every day for 45-60 minutes.
This camp teaches kids how a computer thinks and how to talk to a computer. Coding concepts covered include commands, events/triggers, sequencing and loops. Kids also learn the important habit of testing their work frequently, and having a plan before you start.
iPads are provided, but since projects are saved locally on each iPad, kids are permitted to bring their own device so they can keep their work.
