2019 Computer Hardware & Electronics Camp Schedule

This camp is offered at our Chicago location (2867 N Clybourn Ave).

JULY 1-3
1-4PM
Chicago

How the Time is Structured

Camps are 3 hours long, and we break up the time and recharge brains and bodies with a 30 minute outdoor break. This may include walks around the neighborhood, social "hang-out" time at a green space, or casual games such as frisbee or basketball at our nearby park.

Daily Schedule

What Students Will Learn and Do

  • Disassemble a computer and learn to identify each component and its function
  • Understand compatibility of parts and how to select parts for a computer build, then assemble and test a desktop computer
  • Learn basics of software such as BIOS, the operating system and drivers
  • Learn how to benchmark, troubleshoot and upgrade computer parts

NOTE: We primarily use donated, older computers in this class. If you wish to use this camp to build a computer for yourself, please contact us 1-2 weeks in advance and we will give you guidance on how to select and purchase parts (at your own expense) prior to the start of the camp.

Sports Add-On (Full Day Camp 9am-4pm)

Note: Available in Chicago only

We are pleased to offer the option to add a half day of sports and games to this camp, with our partner, We Got Game.

Sports will primarily take place at Burley Elementary and may include swim time at Hamlin Park (dry activities will be accommodated for kids who don't swim).

The add-on includes lunch hour supervision at Hamlin Park, and an escorted walk between the two camps.

Please note that you will drop off in the morning at one camp and pick up in the afternoon at the other.
