What Kids Will Learn and Do

  • Learn to use a block-based modding language, and how to export your mods into Minecraft. Advanced students with strong coding skills can choose after Day 1 to pursue the rest of the course in Javascript.
  • Cover intermediate coding techniques, such as working with arrays, iterators and state
  • Design and build a variety of mods to understand how components of the Minecraft world are manipulated
  • Construct 1-2 complete mini-games with features such as teams, scoring, custom arenas and controlling game state and player inventory

NOTE: This camp is different from the Advanced Minecraft Mini-Game Design camp. Students who want an advanced Minecraft camp can take either camp, or both. This camp is coded outside of the Minecraft world. The other camp is coded within Minecraft using command blocks.

How Time is Structured

Camps are 3 hours long, and we give brains and bodies a chance to recharge with one 30 minute outdoor break. This may include walks around the neighborhood, social 'hang-out' time at a green space, or open play at our nearby park.

Class Size & Instructors

Camps are capped at 8 students, and will have a 4:1 ratio or better at this age group.

Our instructors are adults who are studying or have completed post-secondary education. We hire talented high school students as teaching assistants and to provide near-peer interactions.

All of our instructors have relevant coding or technology expertise.

Hardware, Accounts & Materials

Computers and all required Minecraft accounts are provided for use during the camp.

To continue working on Minecraft mods at home, students will need to purchase an account for approximately $30.

After care Add-on (3:30-5:00pm)

Price: $15 per day

For families who need a longer day, we will be offering aftercare by the day throughout the summer.

Aftercare will take place outdoors in Hamlin Park, and you may pick up your child at any time during the window.

Students will be supervised by a member of the Power Up team, who may not be your child's daytime instructor.

Aftercare must be booked 24 hours in advance. Parents who are late picking up their child will be subject to a $40 late pick up fee.

Refunds & Price Adjustments

If you register in error, we have a 24 hour, no-fee cancellation policy. Just call us or email us within 24 hours and we will take care of it.

After that, you can receive a refund, less a $50 admin fee, up until 14 days before the camp starts.

There are no refunds within 14 days of camp start.

We offer a sibling discount for 2 children from the same family registered in the same program. The sibling discount is 10% and the code is SIBLING.

There is an Early Bird Discount of 10% on all registrations up to March 31. The discount will be applied automatically.

We do not offer price adjustments for missed days. Please select a week that works for your schedule.
