For both Minecraft lovers and newbies, this camp will rapidly expand your knowledge of the game. We will focus on the building aspect, working collaboratively in teams on a series of challenges to create an incredible world. Think like an engineer and architect!
|Ages||6 - 8|
This camp is designed to expose kids to a large number of the features of the vast world of Minecraft, as well as work on skills in building structures and more.
This class takes place entirely within the Minecraft game environment on our own private servers. We set up custom worlds to facilitate teamwork and learning and we have rules of appropriate in-game behavior that kids are expected to follow.
Camps are 3 hours long, and we break up the time into one hour blocks to work with kids' natural learning rhythms. In the middle hour, we take them outside and have unstructured playground time to build friendships and refresh young brains and bodies. The group walks a short distance to Hamlin Park in Chicago.
Camps are capped at 10 students, and will have a 5:1 ratio or better at this age group.
Our instructors are adults who are studying or have completed post-secondary education. We hire talented high school students as teaching assistants and to provide near-peer interactions.
All of our instructors have relevant coding or technology expertise.
Computers and all required accounts are provided.
The version of Minecraft we use is Java Edition on PC/Mac. This version requires use of the keyboard and mouse, which we will help kids to learn.
For the perfect mix of exercising mind and body, we are pleased to offer the option to add a half day of swimming and sports to any morning camp. This program is only open to Power Up students who are participating in our morning camps.
The swimming and sports will be led by a professional and experienced coach, and will focus on keeping the kids active and having fun. Activities will vary each day, and may include a mix of "real" sports and fun outdoor games. There will not be a training program for any particular sport.
Activities will take place at Hamlin Park, and will include swim time each day, weather permitting. Dry activities will be accommodated for kids who do not wish to swim.
Kids in this program should bring a lunch. They will have a lunch break with some free time on the playground before the sports program starts.
For families who need a longer day, we will be offering aftercare by the day throughout the summer.
Aftercare will take place outdoors in Hamlin Park, and you may pick up your child at any time during the window.
Students will be supervised by a member of the Power Up team, who may not be your child's daytime instructor.
Aftercare must be booked 24 hours in advance. Parents who are late picking up their child will be subject to a $40 late pick up fee.
If you register in error, we have a 24 hour, no-fee cancellation policy. Just call us or email us within 24 hours and we will take care of it.
After that, you can receive a refund, less a $50 admin fee, up until 14 days before the camp starts.
There are no refunds within 14 days of camp start.
We offer a sibling discount for 2 children from the same family registered in the same program. The sibling discount is 10% and the code is SIBLING.
There is an Early Bird Discount of 10% on all registrations up to March 31. The discount will be applied automatically.
We do not offer price adjustments for missed days. Please select a week that works for your schedule.
